Our Vision

Relevant. Shared. Engaging Calgarians creatively.

DIY Theatre Society's vision is a lofty one: We aim to provide Calgarians with opportunities to live creatively and actively engage with the arts. Be it in big ways or small.  But it's one that we strive towards, and we are excited by the opportunities of the city we live in and the people we are able to serve. We see DIY's productions, programs & community as central to achieving this goal.

What is our commitment to you? We will produce socially relevant work. All of our work is chosen with the intent of provoking conversation. Whether you are an active patron of the arts or someone who has never set foot in a theatre, you are welcome here. Our aim is to deliver content that will resonate with each audience member in a personal way.

We also do things differently. Unlike conventional theatre, we aim to break down barriers and hone in on sharing the experience. Our programming focuses on drawing in the audience. Members engage with the work and our company: We see our audience as active co-creators.

We have a long-term game plan beyond bums in seats. We are constantly thinking about and designing engaging programming to draw you further into the creative process. We want to foster a space for dialogue and debate, with thoughts and emotions shared across the stage between attendees and creators.

As we grow, our aim is to provide facilitated interactions between attendees and creators.

We invite you to join us for our Relationship Season as we delve into the complexity of connecting with others whether it's the dating world, family dynamics, or the workplace.
