A 140 years ago, Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House first premiered in Denmark: It shook the theatre world.
Nora, a married women, lacks self-fulfilment in a male dominated world. But determining her destiny disrupts society’s foundation.
But what happens when our Nora finds herself in present day Alberta? Does she face a similar dilemma? How have her options changed? And more importantly, does she choose a new beginning?
HISTORY OF A DOLL’S HOUSE
After Shakespeare, Ibsen is the world’s most frequently performed dramatist. And by the early 20th century A Doll's House became the most performed play.
In 2006, the centennial of Ibsen's death, A Doll's House held the distinction of being the world's most performed play that year. UNESCO has inscribed Ibsen's autographed manuscripts of A Doll's House on the Memory of the World Register in 2001, in recognition of its historical value.
